People seem to expect me to return from Sicily with new ideas and recipes taken from my time there. But although I eat so well there and love to cook there I think what I really take away is a strengthening of a resolve to use the best of what is on my own doorstep. I can’t have the wonderful sun-kissed produce that is so easy to come by over there, the fresh olive oil, almonds and capers but we have our own riches here. Last week I was picking verdant, succulent sea beet on the Welsh coast, pickling wild garlic seeds for the future and cutting herbs from my own garden. This week Global Gardens, a Cardiff based community growing project, have kindly let me try some samples of British grown organic beans and pulses from a company in Halesworth, Suffolk (another place close to my heart) You’ll find the split favs beans in the felafel this week.
