Suddenly it feels like autumn is here and this is probably my penultimate pick of ripe tomatoes from the greenhouse. Luckily – and I know this is a culinary heresy – I actually prefer green tomatoes: the flavour is so much more interesting and complex and they still have a lovely, jammy sweetness once fried.
That said, there are no tomatoes on this week’s menu for Herbivore at the Embassy Cafe. But you will find blackberries, apples, cobnuts and corn to usher in the change of season. Menu here
We’re ready to roll with bookings for our next supper club at Kemi’s in Pontcanna. With one eye on the end of harvest time in this country and one on events unfolding across the atlantic we’re going with a Thanksgiving theme. Some fantastic Welsh produce and some tired cliches come together to produce a five course vegan meal for £25. More details and menu here.
I reserve the right to change the title of the event to Bitter Harvest if it all goes tits up on election day.
The date for our next Meat Free Monday Supper Club at Arboreal, Cowbridge is 7th November, 7pm. Menu here.
4 courses of autumnal vegan cuisine for £18. Bookings: firstname.lastname@example.org
It’s all about the cucurbit family at this time of year – squash, pumpkins, melons, cucumbers etc – and this week’s menu reflects that. We’ve got a black bean & butternut burrito with a watermelon salsa, courgette fritters and even a pumpkin & pistachio cake. Probably the last rhubarb of the year too in the form of a rhubarb & anise fizz. Full menu here.
