The pesky birds of Pontypridd seem to have developed a taste for gooseberries, red currants and black currants this year. Serves me right for not stocking up the bird feeders I suppose. Still, there’s enough for a batch of Gooseberry & Nigella Seed Chutney (adapted from my favourite tomato chutney recipe – thanks Cinnamon Club). The remaining black currants will make their way into an almond cake. Full menu here
Sorry to say there will be no supper club in July. Last week’s sell-out Twisted Bistro was a big success but there’s just too much other stuff to fit in next month. Herbivore will be on the road again – this time up to MOMA in Machynllteh for a one-night-only “culinary intervention” at ceramicist Lisa Krigel’s exhibition on Thursday 27th July. More details on that coming soon. Watch this space for details of the next Cardiff event too.
Next up in the Herbivore supper club line is number 039: Twisted Bistro. Checked table cloths, candles in bottles, gypsy jazz playing and 4 vegan courses of classic bistro food seen through the Herbivore lens for twenty quid. Also, for the first time, we’re taking bookings at any time between 6.30 & 8.30. It’s BYO alcohol with a £2 corkage per person payable on the night. Embassy Cafe, Cathays Terrace, Cardiff 24th June. Menu here. Bookings: firstname.lastname@example.org
After three lovely weekends away cooking and eating my way around the beautiful island of Sicily, Herbivore is now back in town and will be at the Embassy Cafe, Cathays Terrace, Cardiff from 11 – 5 on Saturdays and Sundays. Managed to fit a bit of the good stuff, the high grade Sicilian olive oil , in my baggage so look out for some Italian – inspired dishes coming your way.
Watch out for details of upcoming supper club dates and other special events on the horizon.
Herbivore back in town to team up with Chef Manuel for a unique collaborative supper club. We’re going to be scouring the hedgerows and sea shore and engage in a bit of “pick your own” at some of our favourite farms and gardens to bring a special six course menu, all vegan, to the Embassy Cafe on Wednesday 19th April. Full menu to come soon but in the meantime we’re already taking bookings. It’s £25 per person with a small corkage charge for alcohol on the night. email@example.com
A cold and grey day today, but it still feels like spring is on it’s way. We’re just about to confirm a date towards the end of April for a collaborative supper club with Chef Manners, a very talented, Cardiff-based vegan cook. We’re going to base the menu around what we can go out and pick for ourselves – could be in the wild or from cultivated spots: my garden, allotment or Field Days Organics. A reconnaissance mission this week came up trumps as we found plenty of wild goodies bursting into life and bagged some lovely looking puple sprouting broccoli and rhubarb from Field Days and armfuls of sea beet and wild garlic from the wild. Take a look here to see how it’s going to be used on this week’s menu at the Embassy.
There will be no Cardiff supper club in March as I’m taking the show on the road and heading to Bollington, Cheshire for a kind of “greatest hits” menu. Bit far to travel for South Walians and it sold out very quickly anyway.
Menu for Valentine’s Day here. Limited spaces so move fast. Bookings firstname.lastname@example.org.
The chef reserves the right to chance the menu slightly at short notice due to violent and unpredictable mood swings. Sorry that should read: because of seasonal availability of produce.
Latest news: there will be a Vegan Valentine’s Day Supper Club. Embassy Cafe, Cathays Terrace, Tuesday 14th Feb. I’ll get some more details out soon but it will be BYO alcohol and the usual five courses of loved-up food. Limited places so get in touch if you want to save a space (or two..or three).
It’s the darkest time of year with the added pressures of enforced jollity, good cheer and rampant consumerism. So what better way than to escape it all for a few hours in the convivial setting of Kemi’s Cafe in Pontcanna and enjoy five courses of creative, seasonal, vegan cuisine? We’ve created a darkly delicious menu of hearty, slightly boozy, winter food for your enjoyment with a soundtrack by the deeply missed mighty Prince (Buster). £25 pp Wednesday 14th December, 7m. Full menu here. None more black,
We’re ready to roll with bookings for our next supper club at Kemi’s in Pontcanna. With one eye on the end of harvest time in this country and one on events unfolding across the atlantic we’re going with a Thanksgiving theme. Some fantastic Welsh produce and some tired cliches come together to produce a five course vegan meal for £25. More details and menu here.
I reserve the right to change the title of the event to Bitter Harvest if it all goes tits up on election day.
The date for our next Meat Free Monday Supper Club at Arboreal, Cowbridge is 7th November, 7pm. Menu here.
4 courses of autumnal vegan cuisine for £18. Bookings: email@example.com
