With two Christmas supper-clubs under my belt, that’s it for this year. No Herbivore at the Embassy Cafe 23/24 December or 30/31. Re – open on Sat 6th Jan. Expect to see some new things on the menu and a new, improved Sunday menu. And look out for announcements very shortly of the next run of supper-club events.
The last two venues for Herbivore supper clubs were a bit of a hit so why not go back to both for Christmas? Thursday 14th December sees us back at the Fig Tree in Penarth – once again 5 courses of seasonal vegan cuisine, with bookings from 6pm. Then it’s on to the Blue Honey Night Cafe on Tuesday 19th December at 7pm for a one sitting 5 course feast with a slightly different menu. Menus and more details here.
After last month’s Day of The Dead sell-out success at the wonderful Blue Honey Night Cafe, Herbivore is heading west to the sea front in Penarth and the opulent surroundings of The Fig Tree restaurant. As usual it’s five set courses of creative vegan cuisine. A couple of dishes from the back catalogue, a couple of new ones to reflect the location. Full menu and booking details here.
Herbivore back at the Embassy Cafe this weekend 21st/22nd October after a weekend away catering for a wedding. Menu even more autumnal now with, mushrooms, chestnuts, apples and walnuts. Courgettes still keeping the flame of summer alive though. Menu here.
Spaces filling pretty fast for Herbivore042: Almost Dead at the Blue Honey Night Cafe. If you want to come there were still some tickets left at the time of going to press at getawriggleon.com.
It’s been a bit quiet on the Herbivore supper club front lately but we’re back on course with a collaboration with the lovely Blue Honey Night Cafe slap bang in the centre of Cardiff on 31st October. A Halloween/Day Of The Dead feast – five courses of creative vegan cuisine with a distinctly Latin American flavour. There will be pumpkin. Menu etc. here.
Having just posted about Herbivore not opening at the Embassy on Sundays in August, I’m happy to a one-off Summer Sunday Lunch Supper Club on the 20th August. £17.50 gets you four courses of creative, vegan, seasonal cuisine and you can bring your own alcohol and book a table at the time of your choosing form 1pm. Full menu here.
The pesky birds of Pontypridd seem to have developed a taste for gooseberries, red currants and black currants this year. Serves me right for not stocking up the bird feeders I suppose. Still, there’s enough for a batch of Gooseberry & Nigella Seed Chutney (adapted from my favourite tomato chutney recipe – thanks Cinnamon Club). The remaining black currants will make their way into an almond cake. Full menu here
Sorry to say there will be no supper club in July. Last week’s sell-out Twisted Bistro was a big success but there’s just too much other stuff to fit in next month. Herbivore will be on the road again – this time up to MOMA in Machynllteh for a one-night-only “culinary intervention” at ceramicist Lisa Krigel’s exhibition on Thursday 27th July. More details on that coming soon. Watch this space for details of the next Cardiff event too.
Next up in the Herbivore supper club line is number 039: Twisted Bistro. Checked table cloths, candles in bottles, gypsy jazz playing and 4 vegan courses of classic bistro food seen through the Herbivore lens for twenty quid. Also, for the first time, we’re taking bookings at any time between 6.30 & 8.30. It’s BYO alcohol with a £2 corkage per person payable on the night. Embassy Cafe, Cathays Terrace, Cardiff 24th June. Menu here. Bookings: firstname.lastname@example.org
After three lovely weekends away cooking and eating my way around the beautiful island of Sicily, Herbivore is now back in town and will be at the Embassy Cafe, Cathays Terrace, Cardiff from 11 – 5 on Saturdays and Sundays. Managed to fit a bit of the good stuff, the high grade Sicilian olive oil , in my baggage so look out for some Italian – inspired dishes coming your way.
Watch out for details of upcoming supper club dates and other special events on the horizon.
Herbivore back in town to team up with Chef Manuel for a unique collaborative supper club. We’re going to be scouring the hedgerows and sea shore and engage in a bit of “pick your own” at some of our favourite farms and gardens to bring a special six course menu, all vegan, to the Embassy Cafe on Wednesday 19th April. Full menu to come soon but in the meantime we’re already taking bookings. It’s £25 per person with a small corkage charge for alcohol on the night. email@example.com
