Chef Manuel & I have been putting our heads together and wandering the fields, hedgerows and shoreline to come up with a menu for our collaborative supper club coming up at the Embassy Cafe on the 19th of April.
Once you start looking there are so many different green shoots out there just waiting to be picked so it’s been a process of narrowing down what we want to use and trying to predict what will be ready for harvest at the Amelia Trust Farm, Blaencamel and Riverside Market Garden.
It’s still a bit of a work in progress but you can see the prototype menu here. We only have a few spaces left for this one so act quickly if you want to come – email me: email@example.com
Herbivore back in town to team up with Chef Manuel for a unique collaborative supper club. We’re going to be scouring the hedgerows and sea shore and engage in a bit of “pick your own” at some of our favourite farms and gardens to bring a special six course menu, all vegan, to the Embassy Cafe on Wednesday 19th April. Full menu to come soon but in the meantime we’re already taking bookings. It’s £25 per person with a small corkage charge for alcohol on the night. firstname.lastname@example.org
A cold and grey day today, but it still feels like spring is on it’s way. We’re just about to confirm a date towards the end of April for a collaborative supper club with Chef Manners, a very talented, Cardiff-based vegan cook. We’re going to base the menu around what we can go out and pick for ourselves – could be in the wild or from cultivated spots: my garden, allotment or Field Days Organics. A reconnaissance mission this week came up trumps as we found plenty of wild goodies bursting into life and bagged some lovely looking puple sprouting broccoli and rhubarb from Field Days and armfuls of sea beet and wild garlic from the wild. Take a look here to see how it’s going to be used on this week’s menu at the Embassy.
There will be no Cardiff supper club in March as I’m taking the show on the road and heading to Bollington, Cheshire for a kind of “greatest hits” menu. Bit far to travel for South Walians and it sold out very quickly anyway.
Got a couple of newbies for this weekend’s menu.
First up is a dish inspired by (ok, stolen from) the wonderful Padella restaurant in Borough Market: A white bean bruschetta with salsa rossa. I’ve added some roasted red pepper, sage and a side of jerusalem artichokes with walnuts and a splash of truffle oil. Kind of Autumnal, but more of a final goodbye to winter.
Also new to the weekend menu is something from the last Herbivore Supper Club: Date and toffee pudding with a miso caramel sauce – a real hit on Valentines Night when I served it with a peanut butter sorbet.
And for the first time this year we have wild garlic (so goodbye winter, but hello spring) which I’ll be throwing into Cauliflower Pakoras.
Embassy Cafe, Cathays Terrace Saturday 11 – 5 & Sunday 12 – 5.
Just a minor change of opening hours at the Embassy Cafe – now form midday on a Sunday rather than 11. (Having said I was going to open for six Sundays there I’ve kept it going until further notice).
Menu for Valentine’s Day here. Limited spaces so move fast. Bookings email@example.com.
The chef reserves the right to chance the menu slightly at short notice due to violent and unpredictable mood swings. Sorry that should read: because of seasonal availability of produce.
Latest news: there will be a Vegan Valentine’s Day Supper Club. Embassy Cafe, Cathays Terrace, Tuesday 14th Feb. I’ll get some more details out soon but it will be BYO alcohol and the usual five courses of loved-up food. Limited places so get in touch if you want to save a space (or two..or three).
Starting from 15th Jan Herbivore will be operating at the Embassy Cafe on Cathays Terrace every Sunday so you’ll now have two opportunities to sample the ever changing menu of vegan and vegetarian lunches, brunches and sweet things. We’re open 11 – 5 on both days and not currently taking bookings as the space is so small – but do give me a shout if you’re planning to come as a group: it’s useful for me to know and I can do my best to make sure there’s somewhere to sit and something left to eat.
No supper clubs planned for the next two months at Kemi’s but watch this space for any other upcoming events.
Menu for the NYE tapas/small plates menu at the Embassy Cafe is now here. The ideal place to line your stomachs with vegan and vegetarian delights before heading off to celebrate the end of the world. I mean the end of the year,
We’re going to be seeing off the old year and welcoming in the new with a menu of tapas-style small vegan & vegetarian plates at the Embassy Cafe. We’re kicking off at 6pm so you can just drop in for a drink and a bite before heading off to crazy party land. Alternatively, grab a bottle of wine or two and settle in for the night. We’re not taking bookings as it’s not a set a meal – just order as much or as little as you like – but drop me a line if you’re planning to come to give me an idea of numbers. It’ll be a BYO night with a small corkage charge. Food menu coming very soon.
